In May 2024, we set off on a self-driven family adventure through the breathtaking expansions of Namibia. Behind the wheel of a 4x4, we traveled at our own pace, guided by endless skies, shifting light, and the silence of the wild.
From the peaceful farmstay at NamibGreens to the surreal beauty of Sossusvlei, Deadvlei, Dune 45, and Big Daddy, the desert welcomed us with awe. In Walvis Bay, we watched the dunes meet the Atlantic in a haunting dance of sand and mist.
Spitzkoppe brought sacred granite peaks and star-drenched nights, followed by the ancient lands of Damaraland: prehistoric rock art, desert elephants, and a deep sense of walking through a time beyond time.
We then ventured to the Waterberg Plateau, a lush sanctuary rising out of the dry landscape, where we encountered rich wildlife — antelopes, endemic bird species, and awe-inspiring views.
In Etosha National Park, we encountered both rhinos — black and white — giraffes, oryx, jackals, and so many more. Over the course of the entire journey, we observed more than 111 species of wildlife, including rare and elusive sightings of a Cape porcupine, a nocturnal aardvark, and a secretive brown hyena.
Before returning to Windhoek, we spent three peaceful days at the AfriCat sanctuary (Okonjima), immersing ourselves in a vital conservation program dedicated to big cats.
A journey of vast horizons, untamed wildlife, and sublime solitude.
A rare moment of wonder — and deep, deep gratitude.
